The $18 Million Cover-Up
It’s hard to find the words when you realize exactly how your hard-earned money is being spent in Washington. As a mama, a taxpayer, and a proud Iowan, I’m used to hearing that there’s “no room in the budget.”
We’re told there isn’t enough for our local public schools. There isn’t enough to adequately fund healthcare or the fight against cancer. Yet, somehow, there is always enough for two things: foreign wars and protecting the reputations of powerful people.
The $18 Million “Slush Fund”
This week, the U.S. House of Representatives had a chance to choose transparency. They had a chance to release the names of members of Congress who have used a taxpayer-funded “slush fund” (totaling over $18 million) to pay off victims of sexual harassment and keep them quiet.Instead of transparency, 357 members of Congress voted to BURY the resolution in committee.
Iowa’s Silence
What hurts the most is seeing our own representatives, Zach Nunn, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Ashley Hinson, and Randy Feenstra, ALL vote to keep these names hidden.
Randy Feenstra is currently asking for your vote to become our next Governor. He says he wants to lead Iowa, but how can we trust a leader who votes to keep the public in the dark about who is using our money to cover up “deplorable” behavior?
We deserve better! We deserve leaders like Zach Lahn, who understand that public service is about accountability to the people, not protecting the “old boys’ club” in D.C.
It’s time to STOP the excuses! 🛑
If we have $18 million for hush money, $1 billion a day on a war in Iran, we have money for our kids and our health.
